Almost two years of wait and it’s all getting over! The big bang worldwide release of ‘Baahubali – The Conclusion’ was one among the most expected films of this year. Moreover, the curious investigations over ‘Why Kattappa killed Baahubali?’ come to an end, for which you have to wait almost till end of film.
The second installment of Baahubali traverses through the hidden pages of mystery involved the death of Amarendra Baahubali (Prabhas) and his son Amarendra Baahubali (again played by Prabhas) after years getting back to settle score with Bhallala Deva (Rana Daggubati), who had established his evil realms in Mahishmathi and captured his mother Deva Sena (Anushka Shetty) as captive for 25 years.
Grandeur finds yet more new identity in the second installment of Baahubali franchise, but SS Rajamouli doesn’t blindly bank all his hopes on this factor. The first thing that instantly keeps winning claps at many places are the dialogues by Karky. In spite of picking up a large scale grander production, SS Rajamouli doesn’t miss to give his usual panache of offering Goosebumps through mass heroism. For instance, the intermission sequence, where Rana Daggubati is enthroned as ‘King’ and Prabhas as ‘Commando’ (revealing reason could be a spoiler) turns to be a stupendous stroke, where crowds both inside and outside screens (we meant audiences) offer irresistible applause.
For the others, who wanted to watch the second installment precisely for the sake of finding what made Kattappa kill Baahubali, there isn’t much mystery to stick up or get excited when revealed. Maybe, the long hiatus between both the installments could have it as a centre of attraction. In the first part, it was son Baahubali who made a stunning screen presence as he had more time to appear. But over here after the father Baahubali scoring brownie points, the son role’s screen presence get eclipsed. The climax sequence has been overpoweringly done, especially the combat with between Rana and Prabhas, though they are shorter in duration.
Background score by Maragadhamani is colossally spellbinding and it enhances the visual emotions to a greater magnitude. Cinematography is as best as the first one. But we could find little misses in CG works as Green matte works are clearly visible. The narration of first installment through graphic by the title credits deserves special mention for the brilliant narrative technique of SS Rajamouli.
It’s Prabhas all the way ruling the show nearly for 3 hours and he just leaves us speechless. To be precise, we haven’t see such an actor with huge charisma in the recent times. Be the moments of showing his love for Anushka with hilarious moments with Sathyaraj and Subbaraju are captivating. Anushka Shetty looks gorgeous with her looks, though she doesn’t have much to perform as expected. Tamannaah is completely absent in the film and has nothing to perform here. You see her only in a shot during climax. Sathyaraj is the absolute showstopper. His performance and dialogue deliveries are stunning and he is almost like a parallel hero in this film. Rana Daggubati unveils his extremity of herculean act only by the end of movie. Subbaraju is a huge surprise with his convincing role, especially for his transformation during the attack sequence. Nasser is commendable and Ramya Krishnan continues to dominate in her portions although it’s a transition from her good to confused nature from first to second part.
1. SS Rajamouli’s overall packaging
2. Technically brilliant aspects
What doesn’t work?
The film doesn’t have much to mention on flip side, except few misses of engaging moments in second half, slightly illogical war techniques and climax, which has immediate start and abrupt of end.
Baahubali – The Conclusion offers the same impact of Goosebumps, emotions and grand entertainment throughout the film. We don’t find the writing anywhere boring. It’s not jus about grandeur (though some flip sides are involved with the CG and animation), the movie has strong dialogues and nuance performances with brilliant musical score.
Verdict : The epical realms of Baahubali – The Beginning continues is recreated here.
Rating : 7/10
