Call it incidental or co-incidental? A close call indeed! There happens to be a certain paradigm of themes and premises in Tamil cinema that often keeps occurring. Well, with the 2017 starting off with big releases and its all soon ending with just 5 more months, we get to see a pick of movies, where our heroes of Kollywood had travelled to the 80s and 90s in their movies.
Dhanush (Pa Pandi)
The film traverses through the journey of a 60-yr old Power Pandi (played by Raj Kiran). But the younger age version played by Dhanush was set in some late 70s and 80s.
STR (Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan)
It turned out to be a box office disaster for many reasons. The film’s entire first half featuring STR as Madurai Michael was placed in the backdrops of 80s following which it shifts to the current times for his role of Ashwin Thatha.
Vijay Sethupathi (96)
The shooting of this film is happening on brisk pace and we get to hear the buzz that major portions of this film is set against the time of 96, where Vijay Sethupathi and Trisha have their teenage episodes.
Suriya (Thaana Serndha Koottam)
It has been officially confirmed by Vignesh Shivn that the entire story is set against the backdrops of 1987. Moreover, the looks and set up of that time zone has been very well maintained, which is very evident with the posters of Thaana Serndha Koottam.
It is likely reported that some of the portions involving Vijay is set in 80s, which will have the protagonist appearing as village head and Nithya Menen as his wife. We have seen the Retro typed looks of SJ Suryah in some of the leaked pictures from the shooting spot.
