From the director Imtiaz Ali of most celebrated romantic entertainers like Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal and Rockstar, here comes Jab Harry Met Sejal. The King of Romance – Shahrukh Khan plays the lead role with Anushka Sharma playing the female lead role.
Shahrukh Khan plays Harry who is a tourist guide in Europe joining with the Indian tourists out there. On an occasion, he comes across a Gujarati speaking girl Sejal (Anushka Sharma), who lost her wedding ring during the tour. She insists Harry who was her tourist guide to take her back to the same locations, where they travelled before to find the missing ring. As the journey across different countries embarks on, these Harry and Sejal realize their search and destination in life.
Well, there isn’t much that we can analyze about this film ‘Jab Harry Met Sejal’. We were all clearly offered the real premise of this film through the trailer. Of course Imtiaz Ali always brings the coalescence of Love and Travel together in all his movies. Of course, that’s his major intriguing element in all the blockbuster movies like Jab We Met, Love Aaj Kal, Rock Star and Highway. But then, what turns out to be a disappointing fact is that JHMS is such a boring film that doesn’t invoke your interests anywhere. It is a plain and very dulling drama that will keep testing your patience. Even the sequence where SRK and Anushka Sharma meet are so mediocre and one can imagine that there isn’t nothing going to be special out here.
The biggest minus isn’t about the film. Had the film been made by a newcomer with some Siddarth Malhotra or Varun Dhawan, it would have been a middling film. But then, it comes the emperors of Kingdom called ‘Romance’. Shahrukh Khan himself would have been bored with these stereotypical roles. A pinch of DDLJ to the laziest Jab Tak Hai Jaan (The flashback sequences of the latter film exactly replicates with the protagonist Harry here).
The screenplay is too fallible that we decide to quit watching the film even by the intermission. We sense some kind of flashes happening over the dreams of SRK and have a guess if there could be a hidden plot behind the protagonist. But that’s a funny part to laugh upon you.
The musical part is yet another annoying element, where you will forget count the number of songs. You blink your eyes, you yawn (obviously the number of yawns will be overtaken by the number of songs) and just look for a second other side, there is a song. Sun rises and sun sets, there are songs. The film’s final credit ends and still there are songs. If musical quotient was the major plan of Imtiaz, he could have at least roped in AR Rahman that would have saved the ship from sinking to a certain extent.
Verdict : Ever biggest disappointment from SRK till the date.
