VTV – THE JOY OF LOVE LIES IN THE PAIN

Usually, it happens that love stories with anti-climax are bounded to make audiences cry and weep. They carry an emotional lump in their throats, but Gautham Vasudev Menon’s Vinnaithaandi Varuvaaya was a celestial exception. The climax was so hard to digest, where the lovers aren’t united, but then the ending gave a sweet smile on our faces pecked with bittersweet memories. This is a rarity in any movies that comes with an anti-climax romance film.

We didn’t have any voiceover as in ancient Tamil movies where filmmakers would pass a message. If Gautham Vasudev Menon had opted for such a voiceover by the end instead of STR, it could have been as follows…

“True Love doesn’t mean that a man and woman have to live a together life in physicality. But then, there souls will be united forever beyond mortality.”

Looks a sort of witticism, but would have been the same if VTV was made in late 80s….
