Be this generation or the previous one, we have been always been proud that music directors like Maestro Ilayaraja and AR Rahman have made the entire country prouder. It is because of their several International honours and awards that made us Tamilians so much elated. But here is something that we didn’t know about someone, who made our previous generations so much prideful with his extraordinary feat of accomplishment. He is none other than G Ramanathan, who made his musical debut in 1938 through Thyagaraja Bhagavathar movie titled ‘Sathya Seelan’. He has composed music for more than 80 films.

When we speak about Tamil music directors, who had stunned the entire world with their honourable awards, we get AR Rahman and Ilayaraja on minds. While AR Rahman had won Oscars, Golden Globe, BAFTA and many more, who is preceded with Maestro Ilayaraja with Golden Remi and many more awards. But Late Music director G Ramanathan was the first ever music director from Indian industry to get an International honour.

This happened for his magnum opus ‘Veera Pandiya Kattabomman’, which won him Best Music Director award at Cairo International Film Festival in Africa. The same festival also felicitated Late Sivaji Ganesan with ‘Best Actor’.
