With the entry scene of Sanjay Dutt (Ranbir Kapoor) having a middle aged look with a huge belly continued with the voice over, telling the viewers, “You guys are going to watch my biography..”. Sanjay tries to make people know about his life which makes him to search for a good writer to write about him. On the other hand he gets a news that he has to surrender himself in the period of 30 days to Supreme Court for Arms Act Case. Before the time given, Sanjay finds Winnie (Anushka Sharma) who is a renowned biographical writer. He tries to approach her and asks her to write for him whereas Winnie denies writing about him thinking that he is a terrorist. Then Sanjay explains her about his life whereas Winnie discovers every struggle Sanjay has faced, how much his father, Sunil Dutt (Paresh Rawal) has helped him in his career and why his best friend Kamlesh Kanhaiyalal Kapasi i.e "Kamli" (Vicky Kaushal) for not talking with him for 12 years. Sanjay goes to jail while Winnie goes through all his past. Will Winnie write the book about Sanjay’s life? Will she make the world know about him? Whether Sanjay is really a terrorist or not will be revealed in the climax of this biopic.

The story has a strong emotional touch with the wonderful casting that makes audience to completely freeze with the moments portrayed in the movie. This makes everyone to know and understand how a news can affect a person’s social life and personal feelings. The periodic sequences featured in the movie makes very realistic experience such that Ranbir matches the feelings of Sanjay Dutt in his facial expression and body language. The storyline is very clear in which Rajkumar Hirani proved that he is a best editor with his ideas by realizing which frames are important and executed perfectly on screen with the wonderful music of A. R. Rahman, Rohan Rohan & Vikram Montrose.

Ranbir Kapoor has synced with the imitation of Sanjay Dutt’s body language in which he has gained the support of Paresh Rawal for 75 % in this biopic. Overall performance of the cast has added so much impact to the execution of this biopic with Ravi Varman’s perfect cinematography which is adding more beauty to the visuals.

On the whole, this biopic is an emotional drama about Sanjay Dutt which reveals his lifestyle and makes us have a conclusion about how is he as a person and as an actor.
