After the release of ‘CoCo’ (Kolamaavu Kokila) last week, all Nayanthara fans were excited to look her in the role of a bold CBI officer in the movie in a thriller genre. With the power packed action trailer of this movie, everybody has been waiting for this movie’s release since the making began in 2015. After lots of conclusions and judgments, ‘Imaikka Nodigal’ has finally released in the screens. Will Nayanthara once again amaze her fans with her different character? Whether the “Psychotic son of a bitch” will be no more?

Synopsis:

‘Rudra’(Anurag Kashyap) is a psychic criminal who loves to do murders. The serial killer is a tricky person who tests CBI and escapes each time after which he continues to murder. Dodging and hiding from police and CBI, Rudra is active once again with back to back sensational murders in the city. Anjali (Nayanthara) is a CBI officer who closes the case thinking that Rudra is dead in a mission. She opens the same case once again when she gets to know that Rudra is back with the murders happening in the city again. On the other hand, Anjali’s brother, Arjun (Atharvaa) who is a MBBS student falls in love with Krithika (Raashi Khanna) and comes to Bangalore to meet Krithika. Rudra who gets to know about Arjun, follows him and diverts CBI by creating a mess to make CBI assume Arjun to be Rudra. How will Anjali finish this case? Will Arjun gets escaped from Rudra’s trap? The remaining thrills to throat in the climax.

Analysis:

After touching the horror genre in ‘De Monte Colony’, Ajay Gnanamuthu’s efforts in this action thriller has worked out well such that his base ground work is clearly realized in the picture. More research on creating the characterization of technological genius and smart psychic murders is revealed in the movie. R D Rajasekar’s cinematography is also an appreciated aspect whereas CG shots could have been developed well. Choosing a strong cast like Nayanthara, Atharvaa, Anurag Kashyap and Raashi Khanna, Ajay Gnanamuthu has created a good base for creating expectations for this thriller. Anurag Kashyap’s performance with Magizh Thirumeni’s voice has been so powerful and vibrant whereas Anurag’s effort is well understood during the dialogue delivery. Run Time might have been reduced if the love scenes and action sequels were shortened in editing. Adhi’s music has induced the feel of romance and the background music can be stated as a main pillar for the thrills in the movie.

Performance:

Nayanthara has amazed as usual with a complete action packed performance. She has played an intelligent CBI officer role with supposedly having very painful loss of her love interest. Atharvaa is the lead character that revolves as the core subject in the movie, has also did the action sequences very well. Being as a supportive friend, Ramesh Thilak has travelled with Atharvaa throughout the movie with funny dialogues and as an encouraging friend. The pretty and bubbly, Raashi Khanna who has been Atharvaa’s love interest, has remained to keep mum almost in half of the movie. Vijay Sethupathi featuring for 20 minutes in the movie has performed very cute role by pairing up with Nayanthara. Anurag Kashyap has tried a good attempt by trying out delivering Tamil villain role with powerful reactions and stunts. Might be since we know him as a Bollywood face, it is hard to accept him speaking Tamil and also the viewers can feel his difficulties while delivery of dialogues and during action scenes.

What works?

1) Nayanthara and Anurag Kashyap

2) Thrilling second half

3) Cinematography and Music

What doesn’t work?

1) Few unwanted characters and more flashback scenes

2) Long Run time

3) Logic errors

On the whole, ‘Imaikka Nodigal’ will not disappoint Nayanthara fans with more twists and turns removing more knots inside several knots which thrills till end.

Verdict:

No disappointment in the thrilling battle between CBI Vs Police.
