Successfully running on screens from August 31st, ‘Stree’ has been a comedy horror and has squashed at the box office all over the country. With the thrilling and humor filled trailer, ‘Stree’ directed by Amar Kaushik, is expected to be a burst out of comedy and thrills with a mix of horror. We clearly realize that Rajkummar Rao, is a tailor and he falls in love with Shraddha Kapoor. Between the while from the trailer, doubts certainly arise whether ‘Stree’ is a girl or a ghost? What ‘Stree’ does? Why is she mad on men? Why men get scared because of ‘Stree’?
In the beautiful town of Chanderi, the ghost who is referred as ‘Stree’ haunts during 4 days festive period in. It is believed that ‘Stree’ won’t be entering any house doors if she sees the sentence painted as “Oh Stree Kal Aana” in the compound walls. ‘Stree’ who had a very bad background, seduces and kidnaps men as nude during the festive time and keeps them in her place. Pankaj Tripathi (Rudra) is a book shop owner who knows about the idea of ‘Stree’ and tries to make people aware of her. Having no idea about this, Rajkummar Rao (Vicky, a superfast and stylish young tailor in Chanderi) gets introduced to Shraddha Kapoor who arrives to Chanderi only during the festive time which ends up to fall in love. Aparshakti Khurrana (Bittu) and Abhishek Banerjee (Jaana) suspects Shraddha as a ghost since her activities look so weird. All of a sudden, Jaana is trapped in Stree’s vision and is kidnapped. Bittu suspects Shraddha to be a mystery girl and doubts her to be ‘Stree’. Vicky is waved with a short warning from Bittu about Sharddha. Then after Rudra, Bittu and Vicky go to rescue Jaana. Who is Shraddha? What happened to Jaana and other guys who were kidnapped by ‘Stree? The remaining mystery is revealed in the climax.
Apart from being a horror, the movie has a great set designing work such that the town of Chanderi is portrayed very colorfully. The costumes, the locations and the cinematography of the movie have been the positive shades which add more beauty while watching. The village style ‘Hinglish’ has been an effective factor for the reach of humor in the movie. Besides all that, it seems like movie has used a wonderful idea that a ghost reads Hindi and follows her own path after reading. Which makes more interesting is that compared to all other horror movies, the idea of making men wear sarees because of the fear they have in ‘Stree’ is absolutely funny and new. Apart from that, the flows have been balanced with two peppy item songs. However, it would have been more appealable in horror sequences if the shouting of ghost is reduced.
On the whole, the movie is a packed entertainer with a pinch of humor and romance but would have been much more interesting if a serious story was there behind ‘Stree’.
