With sudden outbursts of biopic and biographic film making avatars in Indian Cinema, the trend has been going in peak with renewed ideas of directors and engaging life histories of people. However the style of making biopic has been trending agelessly in Film Industry worldwide. It is then continued with more expectations with the upcoming grand biopics as follows –
1) ‘Mahanati’/ ‘Nadigayar Thilagam’ –
Directed by Ashwin Nag and produced by Vyjayanthi Movies and Swapna Cinema, ‘Mahanati’ involved actors like Keerthy Suresh, Dulquer Salmaan, Samantha Akkineni , Vijay Devarakonda, Rajendra Prasad, Divya Vani, Bhanupriya, Prakash Raj, Tanikella Bharani, Malavika Nair, Shalini Pandey, Tulasi and Mahesh Achanta in prominent roles. Keerthy reprising the character of legendary actress ‘Savitri’, the movie had a grand portrayal about the life history of Savitri.
Describing her simplicity, acting skills and her miseries in life, this movie has been a create contribution to Savitri with 100 days success box office hit as a reward for this grand making. However with the spell bound performance of Keerthy and screening with rewards at Westpac IFFM, the people worldwide seems to recognize her as ‘Mahanati’ from then.
2) ‘Sanju’ –
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani and jointly produced by Rajkumar Hirani Films and Vinod Chopra Films, ‘Sanju’ is a biographic film of actor ‘Sanjay Dutt’. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Paresh Rawal, Vicky Kaushal, Manisha Koirala, Dia Mirza, Sonam Kapoor, Anushka Sharma and Jim Sarbh in important roles, the movie had the complete life story of Sanjay Dutt. With the legendary lens of Ravi Varman, the editing of this biographic film is handled by Rajkumar Hirani. Having emotional plot with the music and background score composed by A. R. Rahman, Rohan-Rohan and Vikram Montrose, the movie had a great response in the box office. Screening the movie at IIFM on August 10th, 2018, the biopic has bagged awards for the categories like Best Film, Best Director, Vanguard Award and Best Supporting Performance Male.
3) ‘NTR’ biopic –
Bankrolled under the huge banners of ‘NBK Films’, ‘Vaaraahi Chalana Chitram’ and ‘Vibri Media’, ‘NTR’ biopic has been in making since March 2018 by ‘Vedam’ fame Krish’s directorial. Involving Nandamuri Balakrishna for reprising his father, ‘NTR’ for this prestigious biopic, the cast includes Vidya Balan in the role of NTR’s wife as ‘Basavatarakam’, Rana Daggubati for the role of his son in law and Chief Minister, ‘Chandrababu Naidu’ in important roles.
Still in talks with few more actors like Manjima Mohan, Keerthy Suresh, Rakul Preet, Raashi Khanna and Prakash Raj for other prominent roles, the team is stated to be huge and grand in the making. Music and background score is composed by M. M. Keeravani, Gnana Shekar V.S and Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao are handling camera and editing for this biopic. Earlier announcing that this movie will be hitting the screens during Dussehra, the team is yet to announce about the official release date of the much awaited biopic very soon.
4) ‘Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy’ –
Inspired by the story of freedom fighter, Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy, Surender Reddy is right now directing the bilingual epic period drama, ‘Sya Raa Narasimha Reddy’ with the star studded cast involving ‘Mega Star’ Chiranjeevi, Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Tammannah, Amitabh Bachchan for a cameo role, Pragya Jaiswal, Ravi Kishan, Huma Qureshi, Jagapathi Babu and Sudeep. Produced under the banner of Ram Charan’s ‘Konidela Production Company’, the shooting of this lavish budget movie is going in full swing. Involving hands of James Bond movie stunt choreographer, Greg Powell for this epic drama, the cinematography and editing is done by R. Rathnavelu and A. Sreekar Prasad respectively. Sharing motion pictures and teasers from this movie, the team has created great hype and expectations for the epic period film to release by 2019.
5) ‘Nara Chandrababu Naidu’ biopic –
Being a senior and a legend in political field, Nara Chandrababu Naidu is a well-recognized Chief Minister and leader in India. Doing many developments and amendments to the state for past 23 years, Chandrababu Naidu’s life story has been inspired and directed by Venkata Ramana. Produced by GJ Rajendra, the biopic involves Vinod Nuvvula for imitating the title character and Bhaskar for playing the role of his father-in-law, NTR. Along with them, Sivani Chowdary and Mounika will be seen in prominent roles. Music composed by Karthik Mukundan and cinematography handled by Raj Kiran PR, the shooting for this biopic is almost nearing to wrap up. Further the team is expected to announce about the release very soon. It is also stated that ‘NTR’ biopic will be giving a tight tie with this biopic if both the movies are about to release during Dussehra.
6) ’83 –
After ‘Ek Tha Tiger’, Director Kabir Khan, who had a very long time inspiration on the success of Indian cricket Team in World Cup 1983 with the captainship of Kapil Dev, has directed the movie ’83. Bankrolled by ‘Phantom Films’, this movie will be having the incidents of Kapil Dev’s life and the World Cup events which had happened at Lords stadium in England. Stating that the original members of Indian Team, who were present in the victory of World Cup, had trained Ranveer Singh for this epic movie, the team has created more hopes and expectations on the movie. It is also stated that the movie is has been planned for the release by August 2019.
7) ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ –
Directed by Krish who is simultaneously working on ‘NTR’s biopic’, ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’ is an epic drama depicting the life history of Rani Laxmibai. Imitating the prestigious role of Rani Laxmibai, Kangana Ranaut along with Atul Kulkarni, Suresh Oberoi, Ankita Lokhande and Taher Shabbir is stated to feature in important characters. Inciting the incidents of Rani Laxmibai of Jhansi and her war against the British East India Company, during the Indian Rebellion of 1857, this movie is stated to have a whopping budget with gigantic set designs. Produced under the banners of ‘Kairos Kontent Studios’ & ‘EaseMyTrip’, the music for this epic biographical movie is composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy. Camera handled by the lens of Gnana Shekar V.S., the editing of this movie is done by Suraj Jagtap and Rama Krishna Arram. Estimated to have the release of this movie on January 25th, 2019, the royal making of ‘Manikarnika’ is going on full swing.
