Reprising for the role of Vidya Balan in ‘Tumhari Sulu’, the association of Jyotika in Radha Mohan’s directorial ‘Kaatrin Mozhi’ has been after almost after 11 years of ‘Mozhi’. With the exciting teaser and trailer spreading across in Internet, the movie has been pepping up for release with much expectation to see how Jyotika has performed this matured role. Let this review help to know how it has been as a talk after the release.
Vijayalakshmi is a house wife who admires every working woman and tries to achieve something big in her life with great innocence. She gets surrounded by a small circle of family with a loving husband, son, twin sisters, father (who always compare Viji for not working and not passing her board exams) and the pigeon Bhagyalakshmi which arrives daily by Viji’s balcony. On the other hand her husband also faces crisis in his job, Viji thinks to help her husband by searching for a job which ends up in getting chance for RJ-ing. She then works as a RJ such that her work timings are at late night sessions. Her husband then feels very bad about her conversations with the callers and denies about sending her for job. How a woman for working after getting married gets problems from her family without support? How she overcomes it? How will she make her husband understand? The remaining is revealed with a big ‘Hello….’ in the climax.
Director Radha Mohan has exactly made Jyotika to owe the perfect role which is with a mix of maturity and naughtiness. The screenplay with the beautiful background, the powerful and sleek dialogues has been the important pillars of the movie throughout. However some of the scenes have been added to make the screenplay connect to Tamil audience, the team has effectively converted for presenting in the way it can be neatly narrated with intense characters. The cinematography of Mahesh Muthuswami perfect locations and props with the simple editing cuts of Praveen K. L has also been the positive aspects. Music of A. H. Kaashif with the soothing background has been very impressive.
Besides the previous movies like ‘Mozhi’, ’36 Vayadinile’, ‘Magalir Mattum’ and ‘Chekka Chivantha Vaanam’, the character in which Jyotika has acted in ‘Kaatrin Mozhi’ has seen as a matured one with her cute expressions reviving us back to ‘Poovellam Un Vaasam’ times also by inspiring housewives through her performance. Vidharth as a responsible and loving husband has acted equally filling up with his performance coping up with Jyotika’s role. Lakshmi Manchu as a radio station head has done a very bold role with very stylish look in this movie. As flat-mates, M. S. Bhaskar, Manobala and many other actors have acted well. Playing cameo roles of a celebrity and a caller of the show, STR has been a ‘Wow’ in the part he has appeared whereas Yogi Babu’s role seems to be without any hold respectively.
3) Technical aspects
What doesn’t work?
1) Dramatic first half
2) Not interesting Yogi Babu’s character
On the whole, ‘Kaatrin Mozhi’ is a complete family entertainer which will definitely motivate all housewives and family audience.
‘Kaatrin Mozhi’ is a tribute to all housewives to think beyond their golden cage!
