Giving a brief note about the movie releases which happened during Pongal festival in Superstar’s film journey, the list starts from the very old movie ‘Priya’ directed by S P Muthuraman which had been released in Kannada on January 12th, 1979 whereas in Tamil on December 22nd in the year of 1978. Then in the year of 1979, ‘Kuppathu Raja’ had been directed by T R Ramana, got released on January 12th whereas after two years, the film, ‘Pokkiri Raja’ directed by S P Muthuraman has been released on 14th January 1982. Continued by that in the next year (1983), ‘Paayum Puli’ directed by the same director (S P Muthuraman) had hit the screens on January 14th whereas ‘Uruvangal Maralam’ directed by S V Ramanan has been releasing on the same day i.e., on January 14th 1983 in which Superstar had played the cameo role. In the year of 1984, Superstar winged out with the release of ‘Meri Adalat’ directed by A T Raghu in Bollywood on January 13th which was then continued by the release of S P Muthuraman’s directorial ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ on January 14th 1984 i.e., on the same day. Next to this, in the year of 1986, S P Muthuraman’s ‘Mr. Bharath’ was released on January 10th. After a gap of 4 years, Superstar then gave a hit through P Vasu’s ‘Panakkaran’ on January 14th, 1990. That is then continued with the release of ‘Dharmadurai’ in the year of 1991 on January 14th such that the next year on the same date (January 14, 1992) there had been a movie release of ‘Mannan’. And finally ‘Baashha’ which was directed by Suresh Krishna has been the tremendous hit in box office on January 14th 1995 such that almost after 23 years of this movie, Karthik Subbaraj’s ‘Petta’ is hitting the screens on January 10th this year.

Now we will look up on Thala’s movie releases during Pongal season where it starts from ‘Vaanmathi’ directed by Agathiyan in the year 1996 and on January 14th, Thala’s journey continued then with the release of K Subash’s directorial ‘Nesam’. Then in the year of 1999 that is after 3 years, Thala had the release of ‘Thodarum’ on January 14th which has been directed by Ramesh Khanna. After that, on January 14th, 2001, A R Murugadoss’s directorial ‘Dheena’ has been the blockbuster hit in box office during Pongal. In the year 2002, ‘RED’ has been released on January 14th which was directed by Singampuli. P Vasu’s directorial ‘Paramasivan’ has been released on January 14th, 2006 whereas on the next following year (January 12th 2007), Thala ‘Pongal’ was with the release of ‘Azhvar’. Finally as the eighth movie as a Pongal release, Siva’s directorial ‘Veeram’ has been released on January 10th in the year 2014. However ‘Viswasam’ has been pepping up for the release as the ninth movie to be released during the occasion of Pongal, Superstar’s ‘Petta’ will mark as the ‘banging’ Pongal release this year since it is been almost 23 years having ‘Thalaivar’ movie’s release after the release of ‘Baashha’ tugging out a tight clash for the first time with ‘Thala’ during the festival time. However ‘Superstar’ fans and ‘Thala’ fans are very enthusiastic for the release, both the movies are strongly tying up with more number of shows inside and outside India with great hopes.
