Once again sharing screens after Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s ‘Pink’ (2016) which had been appreciated all over Bollywood with great reviews and critics’ views, ‘Amitabh Bachchan-Taapsee Pannu’ duo is back in ‘Badla’ which has been directed by ‘Kahaani’ fame director Sujoy Ghosh, has been written as the adapted screenplay inspired from the Spanish film ‘The Invisible Guest’(2017). Will this crime thriller make up the expectations which is there just it was for ‘Pink’?
Suggested by Jimmy (Naina’s lawyer), Badal Gupta (Amitabh Bachchan) comes to visit Naina Sethi (Taapsee Pannu) who has been house arrested for a murder case of her secret affair, Arjun (Tony Luke). Badal having so much serious interrogations on working with the ‘details’ of the case understands Naina to tell with weird consequences in some of the instances which happened between her and Arjun for the sake of her loving husband and daughter and also keeping her deals in business which may lead in the trust issues on her with her other Japanese business partners. However been so keen in understanding that Naina has stuck with the deaths of a stranger in an unexpected accident and also Arjun’s murder, which had great behind scenes without open and direct evidence but only her to be the only accused as assumed by the Police, Badla finds out the exact happenings through the face to face discussion with Naina. Who will be the actual murderer? What makes two murders as a connection? Naina is the murderer or someone is behind these murders? Did Arjun kill the stranger or Naina kill the stranger? Who would have actually killed Arjun? The ‘Badla’ (Revenge) story gives the climax with unexpected twists!
However it has been taken with the adapted screenplay for a foreign language film, the twists which was there in the film, was maintained till the climax which will definitely make us to hold on to our seats every moment from the beginning. As usual Sujoy Ghosh’s screenplay has been neat which has been adapted necessarily as required for understanding for the Indian version. Besides that, with a limited cast and also with the apt technical crew the film has been the absolute thriller for the week which will never bore till the end.
Coming to the cast, Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu has as usually competed with each other through their performances they have played. Just spellbound completely. Apart from them, Amrita Singh who has played the role of a mother who wants to know about the actual happenings about her son’s murder has performed well. Other actors like Tony Luke, Manav Kaul and Tanveer Ghani have done their characters well.
On the whole, ‘Badla’ is a clean swing revenge story which will be with lots of twists and turns and also with unexpected climax!
‘Badla’ is absolutely a revenge story with thrills because of a simple start with a mistake!
