After ‘Devadas’, ‘Jersey’ has been much expected with Nani’s performance in this sports film ‘Jersey’ is much expected by his diehard fans such that will this also be a perfect debut Tollywood film for Shraddha Srinath?
Arjun (Nani) is terminated from his office and in the pressure of maintaining a family with a lovely wife (Shraddha Srinath) who just takes up all the burdens on her head by earning as a single person and saving money for responsibilities, and also with a son whose important want was to get an ‘Indian Cricket Team’ jersey for his birthday. Somehow trying to look up opportunities for buying the jersey as a gift to his son, Arjun approaches so many people and tries to find possible ways. However he had been a budding and talented cricketer before 10 years (1986) when he had less commitment, he was constantly given a tap to try for an assistant coach job by his favorite friend and assistant coach Murthy every time even though he was not given great chances to play for India before 10 years. Understanding that he is not late for trying once again, Arjun rises back with the approval and wishes of his son who thinks his dad to be a hero when he scores a six even though he had problems with his age, health and with his wife. What happens next? Will Arjun prove that age is just an age by achieving his dreams? Will Arjun make his loved ones understand about his talent? How he grabs opportunities among several competitions is all about achieving his son’s wish for ‘Jersey’!
Having a non linear screenplay, the story travelled with the forward approaching impact till the end whereas the set properties, costumes, dialogues and even the supportive characters were used so wise creating nostalgia of the years 1986 and 1996 without making us comparing to the other sports movies that has released much before a while.
With the beautiful background score, Anirudh has slightly dominated the effective screenplay with his voice and tunes. Can’t complain a word about the neat presentation with the visuals captured by Cinematographer Sanu Varghese and with the hard work of Editor Navin Nooli to tell the story of a cricket player in short within 2 hours and 40 minutes but would have also been nice if the drag with the repeated match sequences were limited out.
Talking about the performance of the cast, Nani scores century with the apt emotions and expressively showing the tolerance of any failed and ambitious cricket player. Dialogue delivery had added his scores to different level. Supporting him, Shraddha Srinath seemed very much impressive with the responsible wife role by travelling along the story till the end. One thing which would have been added up can be more romance which seemed dropping down gradually in the second half. Sathyaraj playing the character of ‘Murthy’ who will be giving a constant support has as usual done the best in this film. Special appreciations for the kid, Ronit Kamra who amazingly given cute gestures. And as an adult guy Harish Kalyan has also done his role as required for the characterization. Other actors like Viswant Duddumpudi as a tough and calm co player ‘Nandan Reddy’, Sanusha in the role of ‘Ramya’ as a journalist/ Nandan’s girlfriend and many others have done the characters in a neat way.
The emotional touch with the passion to fulfill the wishes of his son and to rise back retrieving the interest on sports even after knowing the terrible consequences, ‘Jersey’ is simply a tribute to every man who faces failure in life and career irrespective of age.
On the whole, ‘Jersey’ is all about the confidence that everyone should believe on themselves how much ever we get old.
‘Jersey’ is a strong hit back on the failure to get placed in history!
