Stated to have huge sets with grand costumes for the film, Yogi Babu is the lead actor in ‘Dharmaprabhu’ such that the story seems to have a clash between Chiraguptan and Yemadharmaraj. However Yogi Babu plays the role of ‘Lord of Justice’ i.e., ‘Yemadharmaraj’, will this comedy film work out on screens this week?
As a father and as Radharavi (Yemadharmaraj) he wants to make his naughty son to have the position of Yemadharmaraj as a result of which Yogi Babu gets his father’s throne. However, Ramesh Thilak (Chitragupta) wanted to acquire the throne pushing off Yogi Babu by making him doing mistakes which won’t be the principles of Yemadharmaraj’s position. Getting so furious with the mistakes that Yogi Babu had done, ‘Motta’ Rajendran (Lord Shiva) takes Radharavi with him on a condition to relieve him only if Yogi Babu solves all the mistakes he had committed within 7 days. How Yemadharmaraj finds way to sort out the warning of Lord Shiva to save his throne? Will he get back his father even if he sorts all the issues? The funny and ‘local’ Tamil Slang talking Yemadharmaraj completes the film with the comical climax!
Starting off with the delightful crowning ceremony to the political clash with Chitraguptan and Yemadharmarajan and also till the climax, the screenplay of Muthukumaran had been touching the practical aspects like politics, sexual abuse against women, corruption and other sensational societal happenings such that the comical instances of Yogi Babu with Ramesh Thilak can been considered as witty moments. Besides them, the most of the sequences seemed with the similar format of a normal play whereas the variance of showing it as a movie was slightly with deviation. The positive aspects of the film were the cinematography of Mahesh Muthuswami and the editing of San Lokesh was descent, the music of Justin Prabhakaran also looked neat. Last but not the least the costumes designed by Murugan and the set designing done by C S Balachandar had been very impressive.
Perfectly fitting to the character of ‘Yemadharmaraj’ with attitude, look and costumes, Yogi Babu had been so apt for the role. His efforts are abruptly shown out well obviously. Of course, Ramesh Thilak’s wits grabbed attention then and there, the scenes with ‘Motta’ Rajendran seemed little lay down. Apart from them, Radharavi as father, Rekha as mother, Azhagam Perumal as a powerful political leader, Janani Iyer as Azhagam Perumal’s daughter and Meghna Naidu’s small role have performed well.
1) Yogi Babu and Ramesh Thilak
2) Comedy scenes touching politics
What doesn’t work?
On the whole, ‘Dharmaprabhu’ would have been still more interesting if the dialogues and scenes were effective in spite of Yogi Babu’s good gesture for giving a chance to a debut director is appreciable.
‘Dharmaprabhu’ is a good show of politics but with less scope for engagement!
