Directed by ‘Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru’ fame H Vinoth, Ajith Kumar had joined hands with Boney Kapoor such that will this official remake of the sensational Bollywood film ‘Pink’ be a success in Kollywood?

Adhik (Arjun Chidambaram) and his friends who are from a wealthy background make Meera (Shraddha) & two other middle class, working women (Abhirami Venkatachalam & Andrea Tariang) to be accused for attempting to murder during a party. However, the men stand strong with their influence and background, Barath Subramaniam (Ajith) who has some personal depression due to a trauma which happened in the past, comes to argue for Meera & friends from the case. How he rescues them by proving their innocence, what all had happened in the party and what will happen during the hearings is the story of ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’!

Whenever someone makes a remake film, we can generally expect prominent changes in the entire screenplay itself in order to give a different feel to the original version. Breaking such stereotypes, Director H Vinoth had played it safe by maintaining the same screenplay but had recreated with some more intense moments like Opening song of Kalki, Ajith-Vidya Balan romance and stunt scenes which also can be considered as the so called ‘particulars’ for attracting Tamil audience. Apart from that, the slow moving screenplay gets heated up once the mass scenes of Ajith come and when the hot arguments in court happen. Understanding the depth with the perfect scale of Ajith to perform by comparing that of Amitabh Bachchan’s character in ‘Pink’, H Vinoth’s hard work will definitely deserve applause on screens for retaining the mass look of Ajith along with the powerful dialogues. Even though the starting and court arguments seem very slow and lengthy, the concept of a strong ‘No’ had been neatly presented with the descent background score of Yuvan Shankar in the second half (slightly not syncing in first half). The cinematography of Nirav Shah and editing of Gokul Chandran had been the positive aspects for understanding the mood of the film.

As a milestone in his entire film career, Ajith’s performance had been the base for the whole film such that he had actually set an example for experimenting different genres mainly with the transformation from mass to drama. He had somehow proved once again to be one of the best ‘performing’ actors in Kollywood. Apart from that, as the supporting actors, Abhirami Venkatachalam, Andrea Tariang, Vidya Balan, Jayaprakash, Rangaraj Pandey, Adhik Ravichandran, Arjun Chidambaram and others have performed well by helping Ajith in uplifting the performance portions. Last but not least, reprising Taapsee’s character, Shraddha Srinath had been equally competing with the splendid performance of Ajith.

What works?

1) Direction & Dialogues

2) Ajith & Shraddha Srinath

3) Cinematography & Editing

What doesn’t work?

1) Starting 20 minutes

2) Slow moving second half and the background music in the first half

On the whole, ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ with the collaboration of H Vinoth, Ajith Kumar and Boney Kapoor had been success in not only as a fresh team but also had proven their responsibility in executing the proper and powerful message of ‘Pink’ to the audience irrespective of age groups.

Verdict: ‘Nerkonda Paarvai’ is a recreation with a powerful message to the public!
