Written and co-directed by Balki after ‘Pad Man’, this film ‘Mission Mangal’ which tells about the hard work of scientists who work day and night for accomplishing the journey of rockets during space missions are much welcomed with the star-studded cast involving Akshay Kumar, Vidya Balan, Sonakshi Sinha, Taapsee Pannu, Nithya Menen, Kirti Kulhari, Sharman Joshi & H. G. Dattatreya. Let’s see how ‘Mission Mangal’ had been working in screens on Independence Day!

As a start and a stepping stone to success, the film begins with the failure of spaceship because of which Chief Scientist Rakesh Dhawan (Akshay Kumar) is shifted to the project for the Mission to Mars such that due to the guilt which happened during the propulsion of the spaceship failure, the Project Director, Tara Shinde (Vidya Balan) joins him with a simple idea of a fried bread being cooked even if the gas stove is on after the oil is well boiled to imply as an idea to make the rocket reach Mars with the on and off of fuel while the spaceship moves through the orbiter. However, Rupert Desai with the experience of working in NASA comes in opposition rather than helping ISRO; Rakesh Dhawan somehow challenges and tries to succeed with the simple idea to make success through the Mission to Mars. Having everyone’s acceptance for the mission and while Rakesh proceeds with the mission, Rupert who is already in the grudge on Rakesh sets the teaming of less experienced but talented scientists to be part of the mission. Anyways, each and everyone from the selected members (Nithya Menen wants to have a baby for making her mother-in-law’s mouth shut, Sonakshi Sinha to be part of NASA, Taapsee Pannu who gets unexpected news of her husband from Army to be injured during a mission, Kirti Kulhari in finding a house being a Muslim and a divorcee, Sharman Joshi as a bachelorette who is believing so much on astrology and the old aged H. G. Dattatreya who is wishing for retirement and a good pension) are so much willing only to work for a 9-5 job, how Rakesh and Tara make them reveal the ‘scientists’ in them and how they make the ‘MOM’ (Mars Orbiter Mission) possible is the story of ‘Mission Mangal’!

From the beginning till the end, the screenplay had been neat with great connectivity to the reality of every scientist’s dream who is working hard to make India proud in ISRO. Making it simple, absolutely with the direction of Jagan Shakti and with co-direction of Balki, the team had made everyone wonder how space science can be so simple when it is compared with the home science! No formulae, no theories, no big illustrations, and no unfamiliar scientific terms! ‘Mission Mangal’ is an absolute understandable space film that can be easily understood even by a 4th-grade school student! Adding up to the story and characterizations which had been built, the entire film had honored the hard-working scientists in the 50 years of ‘ISRO’ with more simple elements, well-placed dialogues, background score, editing and of course with the brilliant cinematography of Ravi Varman.

Coming to the performance part, we can’t be finishing off the review without appreciating the performance of the brilliant cast which is actually a positive add-on to this wonderful space film.

On the whole, ‘Mission Mangal’ will be the successful experience which will definitely make you sit in the edge of your seats till it is accomplished while watching!

‘Mission Mangal’ is a very proud portrayal for the intelligent & hard-working scientists of ‘ISRO’!
