After ‘Kadaikutty Singam’, we knew Director Pandiraj had roped in another bunch of actors by having Siva Karthikeyan, Aishwarya Rajesh and Anu Emmanuel in the lead roles. However, we knew that this film is more of brother-sister relationship and about family sentiments, will this be successful and win the hearts of family audiences?
Siva Karthikeyan thinks his uncles to be his father and respects him to a greater extent with love and care since he had lost his father at a very young age. In spite of his ‘unconditional love’ on them, they remain hardly attached to him and his family because of their hatred on his sister Aishwarya Rajesh. Followed by that, Siva Karthikeyan’s cousins too refuse to marry Aishwarya Rajesh. What is the reason for all the relations to hate Siva Karthikeyan and his family because of his sister? Will Siva change the situation and make his uncles understand his genuine love and affection? The remaining will be the answer in the climax of ‘Namma Veettu Pillai’!
With a usual template of a ‘family entertainer’ which will revolve around the relations having a tug of wars and a hero trying to unite everyone, Pandiraj had played a safe game by carrying over the same subject with the general brother-sister sentiments which we have already seen in many other films. We can even mention ‘Namma Veettu Pillai’ as an upgraded/ a recent version of Bharathiraja’s ‘Kizhakku Cheemayile’. Also, Pandiraj had succeeded in entertaining without creating a tiring feeling in any of the frames. Mainly he had tried lifting up Siva Karthikeyan’s scope in performing through this film. However it was the usual story which had been heard and watched earlier, Pandiraj had made the audience to fill their eyes with tears with his touching story, dialogues, and screenplay. It would have been nice if Pandiraj had worked out some more with interesting romantic portions because the heroine character seemed off from limelight. At the same time, we can guess what will be the next scene. Besides that cinematography of Nirov Shah with the visuals of village backdrops and editing of Ruben are the positive aspects of the film whereas D Imman should have been little more worked hard and concentrated by without showing off the touch of his previous songs in this film (especially “Unkoodavae Porakanum…” song).
Anyways, we have seen Siva Karthikeyan in many other village-based films like (‘VVS’, ‘Rajini Murugan’ and ‘Seema Raja’), this film seems to give more space and scope for Siva Karthikeyan to perform by avoiding more mass instances and getting more into performance part with ‘Arumpon’ character. We can absolutely mention Anu Emmanuel’s character to be a minus because of the less scope for her without coming entirely in the film. Playing the main character like a sister, Aishwarya Rajesh had scored well with her performance. By competing with her, Natty has also scored his level best through his character. Not only with the comedy, Soori has been involved with a good character in the film such that Pandiraj’s son who had played the character of Soori’ son deserves a special applause for his talkative and naughty kid character and performance! Besides them, the other actors like Bharathiraja, Samuthirakani, ‘Aadukalam’ Naren, Yogi Babu, Subbu Panchu, Vela Ramamoorthy, RK Suresh, and many others had performed well.
1) Involvement of actors
What doesn’t work?
1) Usual story with the template
3) Romantic portions
On the whole, ‘Namma Veettu Pillai’ is an absolute option for this week as a family entertainer in which Siva Karthikeyan is played well with sentiments as Director Pandiraj’s tool in the screenplay!
‘Namma Veettu Pillai’ is an upgraded version of films with brother-sister sentiment!
