In the era of having blockbuster films from other languages as a remake film in Kollywood these days, the film ‘100% Kadhal’ which involves GV Prakash Kumar and ‘Arjun Reddy’ fame Shalini Pandey reprising the characters of Naga Chaitanya and Tamannaah Bhatia from the Telugu film ‘100% Love’, had been released today after a long wait. Let us see how this romantic film had worked out on screens this week!
Balu Mahendran (GV Prakash) is a studious state rank holder who is that much conscious even in sleep about how to be first in studies. Coming from the village, Maha Lakshmi (Shalini Pandey), cousin of Balu is so contrasting to him whereas she gets astonished by watching Balu’s studious intelligence and the way he calculates time to study. Feeling difficult to cope with the studies and English medium syllabus, Maha Lakshmi feels depressed for studying and passing over exams to which Balu comes as a rescue. However, with Balu’s guidance and hard work, Maha Lakshmi studies well and overtakes Balu by being the first rank holder. Anyhow, they start competing with each other to be the first rank holder in the upcoming days, there comes a twist with another first rank holder peeping into the competition. On the other hand, Maha Lakshmi’s father brings up an alliance to make her married soon. What happens next? Will Maha Lakshmi marry someone and go or compete with Balu and Ajay for holding the first rank position? Will Balu get Maha Lakshmi’s help to make Ajay lose this ‘first rank’ holder competition? In such situation, do they actually love each other? Even if Balu becomes the first rank holder will he lose his ego and understand Maha Lakshmi is the story of ‘100% Kadhal’!
Just by presenting the exact same story with the screenplay which had been scripted for the original version without changing or adding on any sequences, Director M. M. Chandramouli had done the same story in the style of Kollywood with slight lags then and there. Many logic mistakes were dodged then and there, most of the sequences seemed without any interesting factors which was actually there in the Telugu version. Replicating the same instances of the original version, it is appreciated for the good efforts but will have dissatisfaction when it comes to the slightly unengaged in the songs, lead casts (comparatively not so nice like in the Telugu version) and comedy sequences. Besides that, Cinematography and Set designing seemed interesting such that the length had been felt due to some of the lags.
Replicating the character of Naga Chaitanya, the character which had been owed by GV Prakash Kumar is out and out new attempt which seems to be entirely different to the characters he had played in his earlier films. Been holding the role of the female lead, Shalini Pandey had performed her level best but slightly seemed over acting at some instances. Apart from them, Rekha, Nassar, Thambi Ramaiah, Thalaivasal Vijay and Jayachitra had performed their roles well.
1) Romance sequences
2) Safe portrayal of the same screenplay
What doesn’t work?
3) Logic mistakes
On the whole, ‘100% Kadhal’ is a competitive-romantic and egoistic story of a couple but with lots of logic mistakes and uninteresting comedy sequences compared to the original version! It feels like the team had worked well in the title credits better than in the remake film.
Verdict: ‘100% Kadhal’ scores only 20% in love but 80% in boring egoistic fights!
