Been a season of cop/crime thrillers for a while, ‘Kaalidas’ seems to have Bharath in the role of a cop such that there is an expectation for this film among this week’s movie releases on screens at present. Let us see how ‘Kaalidas’ directed by ‘Naalaya Iyakkunar’ fame Sri Senthil has worked out on theatres this Friday!
Kaalidas (Bharath) has a loving wife (Ann Sheetal) such that he doesn’t care about her much because of his work pressure as he is a police officer dealing with many mystery crime cases. However, he comes across a suicide-ish murder case which is followed by two other deaths of females; he is helped by a senior officer, George (Suresh Menon as Assistant Commissioner) to solve the mystery. On the other hand, the wife of Kaalidas i.e., Vidya gets attracted to the new tenant (Aadhav Kannadhasan) in their house since she hardly gets attention from her husband. Having consecutive deaths and unrelated clues of the murderer, Kaalidas along with AC runs to find the actual killer. Will they find the killer or will there be any connection with the new tenant who is staying in Bharath’s house follows the rest in the thrilling story of ‘Kaalidas’!
Looking deep onto the screenplay of the film, there is a slowing down of the thrill in the beginning which is actually a lag in the starting point, the story moves forward with the thrill during investigation sequences after consequent deaths with many doubts and clues. However, Bharath and Suresh Menon had played the role of serious cops; we even tend to have doubts on them if they are the murderers since the interval block with Royal Enfield bikes and many other similarities which is actually interesting. As a new comer, the director Sri Senthil had attempted the thriller with a good move. Along with the unpredictable twist, in the end, the music, cinematography, and editing had been decent throughout the thriller.
As a sincere police officer and a husband who is disturbed for not taking care of his wife properly, Bharath’s performance, body language, dialogue delivery and other things had been so apt to the character of ‘Kaalidas’. Hopefully, Bharath’s character and performance in ‘Kaalidas’ will be on the top with a talk in the recent movie releases he had! Suresh Menon who had played the role of an experienced police officer and as a guide in solving the mystery in the case had performed well. Playing an innocent and depressed wife role, Ann Sheetal had also played well. However, his character was disturbing and hardly understandable; Aadhav Kannadhasan had played his role well.
1) Thrilling screenplay with an unpredictable climax
2) Performance of Bharath, Ann Sheetal, and Suresh Menon
3) Background Score and Cinematography
What doesn’t work?
1) The unclear idea of Aadhav Kannadhasan’s characterization
2) Few logic mistakes
On the whole, ‘Kaalidas’ is an interesting attempt in the list of recent investigative thrillers in Kollywood with an unpredictable twist in the climax.
Verdict: ‘Kaalidas’ is a suspense thriller with an unpredictable twist in the end!
