Inspired by the story of Poomani’s novel ‘Vekkai’, we knew that Director Vetrimaaran had directed the revenge-action film ‘Asuran’ involving Dhanush, Manju Warrier, Abhirami, Teejay Arunachalam, Ken Karunas, Pasupathy and many others in the prominent roles with the bankrolling of Kalaipuli S Thanu’s ‘V Creations’. Been running successfully on screens for almost 100 days, the team had a success meet with press reporters yesterday in Chennai.

When Dhanush had given his speech, he has stated that “The success of ‘Asuran’ is a milestone for all of us. It is giving us extreme happiness. The freedom which Producer Kalaipuli S Thanu and Director Vetrimaaran is the reason for myself to become ‘Asuran’! I will tell you that GV Prakash’s background score “Vaa Asura… Vaa…” is the reason for the 25% success of ‘Asuran’. I thank GV Prakash for that.

The friendship between me and Vetrimaaran had started from ‘Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam’. I was 20 years old at that time. When I was acting in that film which was directed by Balu Mahendra sir, I had a scene in which I need to perform by thinking about mom and waking up from sleep by extremely weeping. I had great confusion about how to act in that scene. So I have asked Balu Mahendra sir to make Vetrimaaran act that scene for me. Then Balu Mahendra sir asked him to enact and he has also enacted exactly. At that moment, I have been spellbound by watching him perform so well! After that, we shot that scene and I have acted in my own style. After performing, I said to Balu Mahendra sir, “My acting was well or Vetrimaaran’s acting well?” Balu Mahendra sir has given an awkward look and went without answering anything. The reason for his silence is he has considered both of us as his sons. The journey of both of us started from there and that has led to ‘Asuran’. We are like brothers. That is why I don’t have to thank him. But for thinking me to be apt for acting in the character of ‘Sivasamy’, I should really thank him. So I thank him for that. I know how Vetrimaaran struggled to make this film in a very short time. I thank all of them who had worked with me and him in this film.

The time keeps changing. Without any songs and without any heroine, ‘Kaithi’ film had been a success. It’s making me extremely happy. The films like ‘Asuran’ and ‘Kaithi’ which has more importance to the story has started coming up on screens. This is actually giving us encouragement and energy. Such films should come and the success has to be prevailing.”
